About Alicia Hardman

Her journey, which she calls “The Grounded Climb,” moves from selling fruit on her family farm, to seven years in healthcare, to leading three high-impact brands: Shale Ridge Estate Winery & Cidery, Shale Ridge Nordic Spa, and the soon-to-launch hair health line, Quism.

In 2015, Alicia and her husband Garren took a leap that many thought was too risky: buying 12 acres of an abandoned orchard with only a modest loan and no investors. Starting in a two-car garage, Alicia bootstrapped Shale Ridge into a thriving winery. When the world shut down in 2020, she didn’t slow down. She spent 12-hour days hand-delivering cider, transforming that garage into a 10,000-square-foot facility in just a single year.

For Alicia, success isn’t just about working harder, it’s about working smarter. By implementing the EOS (Traction) system and creating her own decision-making framework, BRAIN (Benefits, Risks, Assessment, Intuition, Nothing), she shifted from being in the business to leading from it. Her guiding philosophy: “If your business has a manual, why doesn’t your life?” This systems-based mindset allows her to scale three companies while balancing motherhood and intentional personal growth.

Her most recent evolution, the Shale Ridge Nordic Spa, blends luxury with purpose. This private offering is designed to protect both the landscape and the guest experience. That same commitment to “Slow Science” and botanical, chemical-free quality led her to Quism, a 25-year-old hair health brand she acquired from her salon professional father-in-law and is preparing for a global launch in 2026.

Today, Alicia inspires women to build with intention, reminding the entrepreneurial community that ambition must be grounded in rest, authenticity, and strategy. As she says, “Rest is not a reward; it’s a requirement.”

About the Famous 5 Speaker Series Sarnia Lambton

In 1929, a group of five courageous Canadian women stepped forward to challenge laws and conventions by insisting that women were indeed “persons.” These 5 historical women were Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney and Irene Parlby. And so to honour these five women and to combine tribute with inspiration, the Famous 5 Speaker Series was established in Calgary in 1998 with a satellite speaker series being launched in Sarnia Lambton in 2013.

Now, the Speaker Series profiles extraordinary women of today and speakers talk candidly about the challenges and triumphs in their personal journeys toward success. Local committee members who contribute their time to make events like this possible within the Sarnia Lambton community include Vicky Ducharme, Mikelle Bryson-Campbell, Janet Doyle, Laura Greaves, Samantha Saucier, Stephanie Steele, and Sue Storr.

The event is proudly presented by Title Sponsor: Enbridge Inc., with generous support from Four Points by Sheraton Point Edward, Blackburn Media, Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce, Great Lakes Refill Co., and Sage Grove Media.
