GUIDE FOR SHELTER PROFESSIONALS WORKING WITH SURVIVORS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Presented by: Tracy Huynh
Tracy worked at Hiatus House (an emergency shelter in Windsor providing services to women and families experiencing domestic violence and human trafficking) for 10 years. Tracy started as a Shelter Counsellor and later became the Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator. Tracy's latter role focused on evaluating training curriculums for shelter staff to utilize best practices when serving survivors. As a project result, Tracy developed a shelter guidebook, gathering key information from field experts, survivors, and evidence-based resources. Tracy's background in Social Work and Community Development paired with her experiences as a second generation Canadian has led her to understand the complex needs and intersectional barriers New Canadians face. This perspective on holistic approaches to human development for Tracy means believing that successful, sustainable program development can only be possible when it results from the consultation with and participation of community members.
