New Age Doom with Fuzzed Out (Patrick Pentland of Sloan) and AAWKS
NEW AGE DOOM:
Consisting of core duo Eric J. Breitenbach and Greg Valou, Vancouver-based New Age Doom is a genre-defying project that thrives on spontaneity, experimentation, and intensity. Their music blends genres like drone metal, progressive rock, jazz, dub, and global styles. Their latest album, “There Is No End,” features Norway’s Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser on lead vocals and leans into a more melodic direction while retaining the band's signature freewheeling chaos. In 2021, their collaboration with Lee “Scratch” Perry resulted in a poignant and critically-acclaimed swansong and tribute for the late dub legend.
FUZZED OUT:
Patrick Pentland, guitarist of Sloan, has been a mainstay in Canadian rock for over three decades. Though he has penned more than 50 songs with Sloan, many of his compositions remained unreleased, urging Patrick to branch out. Fuzzed Out represents his venture into solo performances, showcasing acoustic renditions of his extensive career’s work, with a loud twist. This May, he embarks on a brief tour with New Age Doom across Ontario and Quebec.
AAWKS
Barrie-based fuzz rockers AAWKS is the product of four acid casualties united by a love for high fantasy, psychedelics and heavy rock music, alongside some guest musicians who wander in to add their own flair. Forming in 2019, AAWKS’ latest collection of songs showcases an evolved form of the band, one whose collective decades of experience meets the members’ desire to create fuzzy, spaced-out stoner rock.
